MaximusDev Local — Lifetime Licence
The £79 deal in plain English. What you get, what you can do with it, and the bits the lawyers care about. UK law applies; consumer rights aren't waived.

1. Who you're licensing from
"MaximusDev", "we", "us", and "our" mean the trading name used by Tim Harfield, an individual based in Suffolk, United Kingdom. We are not a registered company. You are licensing the software directly from Tim Harfield (trading as MaximusDev).
"You" means the person who buys the licence. A licence is bought by, owned by, and used by one specific human being. (See section 4 for what "one human, many machines" means in practice.)
2. What this covers
This licence covers MaximusDev Local — the desktop application that runs on your machine, builds web apps from prompts, and stores everything in a local SQLite database. It uses your own AI-provider API keys (Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, etc.) and never sends your prompts, code, or files to our servers.
This licence does not cover the cloud product at maximusdev.cloud. The cloud product runs under the separate Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy.
3. The licence — what you get
When you pay £79 (one-time, GBP, plus VAT where applicable), we grant you a perpetual, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use MaximusDev Local for as long as you want, on the terms set out below.
"Perpetual" means: as long as the version you bought keeps working on your operating system, you can keep using it. We don't time-bomb it. We don't phone home to validate. If we drop the product tomorrow, your install keeps running.
"Personal" and "non-transferable" mean: the licence is tied to you. You can't sell it, gift it, lend it long-term, or pass it to your employer when you leave a job. If a friend wants to use MaximusDev, they buy their own licence.
4. Where you can install it
One licence covers one human, on as many of their own personal devices as they want. So if you buy a licence:
- ✓ You can install it on your laptop and your desktop and your home server
- ✓ You can move it to a new laptop when you upgrade
- ✓ You can keep it on your work machine and your personal machine
- ✗ You can't install it on a colleague's laptop "to help them out"
- ✗ You can't put it on a shared workstation that multiple people sign in to
- ✗ You can't run it on a server that other users (employees, customers) connect to remotely
If a team or studio wants to deploy MaximusDev across multiple developers, each developer needs their own licence. Email hello@maximusdev.cloud if you want a multi-seat arrangement — we'll work something out.
5. Commercial use
Yes — you can use MaximusDev Local to build paid commercial work, including for clients. The £79 entitles you to use the tool however productively you want.
Specifically: you can build apps for paying customers, charge for them, sell them, host them, deploy them anywhere you like. You own what you build, the same way a carpenter owns the chair even though they used someone else's saw.
What the licence doesn't entitle you to do is resell MaximusDev itself — see section 6.
6. What you can't do
You agree not to:
- Distribute, resell, sublicense, lease, or rent the MaximusDev Local software to anyone else
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it, except where UK law gives you a non-overridable right to do so (e.g. for interoperability under section 50B of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988)
- Remove or alter copyright notices, licence-key validation, or other proprietary markings
- Use it to build, host, or distribute anything that breaks the law or harms people (the Acceptable Use Policy applies in spirit even though Local doesn't run on our infrastructure)
- Use it to bypass the usage policies of the AI model providers you've configured via BYOK — those policies pass through to you
- Pretend you wrote MaximusDev, that it's your product, or that it's covered by a different licence
7. Updates
Your £79 includes one year of free updates from the date you purchased — every release we ship in those 12 months, you get. After 12 months, the version you have keeps working forever, but you don't automatically get newer major versions. We may offer a discounted upgrade price for existing licence-holders when a new major version ships; we may not. No promises either way.
Security patches for the version you own are included for at least 24 months from your purchase date. After that, we'll do our best, but we won't promise. If a critical security issue appears in an old version we've stopped maintaining, we'll tell you (via the email address you bought with) and recommend an upgrade path.
Bug fixes during your update window are free. Cosmetic changes, minor improvements, and optional integrations are also free. Major new product directions (e.g. a v2 with a fundamentally different builder) may be a paid upgrade, priced separately.
8. Your data and your work
Everything you build, every prompt you send, every file you upload — all of it stays on your machine in a local SQLite database. We don't sync it. We don't see it. We don't have a server to send it to in this product.
If your machine dies, your work dies with it unless you've backed it up. Back it up. The SQLite file lives at a documented path; copying it to a USB drive or a private cloud-backup service is enough.
You own everything you create with MaximusDev Local. We claim no rights over your prompts, your code, your data, or your finished apps.
9. Your AI provider keys (BYOK)
MaximusDev Local makes AI calls using API keys you supply — typically from Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter. The app stores these keys locally and uses them on your behalf. We never see them.
You're responsible for your own provider charges. If your key gets leaked or stolen — including via malware on your own machine — that's on you, not us. Set spend limits in the provider's dashboard if that's a concern.
You're also responsible for compliance with each provider's terms of service. Their usage policies pass through to you.
10. AI output
You are the editor of your own apps. AI models make mistakes. They hallucinate. They produce code with bugs and security flaws. You should review and test what an AI builds for you before relying on it for anything important.
We do not warrant that AI output produced via MaximusDev Local will be accurate, secure, fit for purpose, or non-infringing. If your AI-generated app deletes a customer's data, leaks a secret, or runs up a bill against your AI-provider key, that is your responsibility, not ours.
If your AI-generated content infringes someone else's copyright or trade mark, that's between you and them — not us.
11. Payment and refunds
The licence price is £79 (GBP), one-time, plus VAT where applicable. Payment is taken via Stripe at purchase; the receipt and invoice come from Stripe directly.
Refunds (UK consumer law). If you're a consumer (not buying for a business) you have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 — but only if you haven't yet downloaded or started using the software. At checkout you'll be asked to confirm you understand that downloading the software waives this right (this is the standard digital-content rule). If you haven't downloaded it yet, email us within 14 days and we'll refund in full.
If something is genuinely broken — the software won't install, won't run, or doesn't do what we said it does — we'll refund you regardless of the 14-day window. Email hello@maximusdev.cloud with "Refund" in the subject and a description of the problem. We'd rather fix the problem than take your money for a broken product, but we'll refund if that's what you'd prefer.
12. Ending this licence
This licence runs forever unless you breach it. Specifically, if you violate sections 3, 4, or 6 in a serious or repeated way, we can terminate the licence by emailing the address you bought with. After termination, you must delete every copy of MaximusDev Local on your machines.
You can end the licence yourself at any time by uninstalling the software. There's no refund for unused time on a perpetual licence — you've already received what you paid for.
If we ever stop offering MaximusDev Local entirely, we'll leave the last shipped version downloadable for at least 12 months so existing licence-holders have time to migrate or back up. Your existing install keeps working regardless.
13. No warranty
Except for what UK law specifically requires us to provide, MaximusDev Local is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose. We disclaim all implied warranties to the maximum extent the law allows.
None of the above limits your statutory rights as a consumer where they can't lawfully be excluded — including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which gives you the right to digital content that is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described.
14. Limitation of liability
Nothing in this licence limits liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) anything else that can't be limited under UK law.
Subject to that, our total liability to you under this licence — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise — is capped at the price you actually paid for the licence (typically £79).
We are not liable for: lost profits, lost revenue, lost data (including data you didn't back up), lost AI-provider credits, loss of business opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss, even if we'd been told the loss was a possibility.
15. Governing law
This licence is governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you're a consumer in another EU/EEA country, your local mandatory consumer-protection rules still apply and your local courts may also have jurisdiction.
